Year Zero One :: Toronto, Canada
Year Zero One is a Canadian artist collective dedicated to the exploration of emerging + hybrid artistic practices and social behaviour resulting from new technologies.
Founded in 1996 by Toronto based media artists Camille Turner and Michael Alstad, Year Zero One established a Canadian node in a growing network of international art sites which fostered the emergence of projects exploring the web as an art medium. The collective has developed and produced numerous net based projects and published thirteen editions of its on-line journal. Year Zero One has produced several public art/locative media projects where electronic platforms used for information/communication technology such as touch-screens in mobile environments, Global Positioning Systems (GPS) and video billboards were adapted and explored as a means for creative expression and social interaction.
